James Grant - Chair of Governors
I have been a governor since 2012 and became chair of governors at Spinfield School at the start of the Autumn term in 2016, prior to that, I was Chair of the Curriculum, Teaching and Learning Committee.
I live in Marlow and have three children, who all attended Spinfield and benefited from the excellent start to their careers in education. I work for an international data and analytics business in new product development focusing primarily on UK / European insurance industry.
Jane Trainer - Vice Chair
My name is Jane Trainer. I am Vice Chair of Governors and responsible for Governor communications, producing our Governor Report to Parents each Summer Term. My role involves taking on responsibilities delegated to me by our Chair, James Grant, and I deputise for him or any other Chairs of various committees, during any absence. I also work closely with, and support our Chair, James, to establish a constructive relationship with everyone at Spinfield.
I have been a Governor for over 4 years and am passionate about my role and take it extremely seriously. I am Head of Acting and an Acting Coach & Teacher, working in several local schools. I am passionate about my subject having seen tangible, positive results in children's and young people's confidence, self-esteem and communication skills. I feel proud and lucky to be a Governor at Spinfield and have seen how my son has thrived within this unique and wonderful school.
Clare Barford - Co-opted Governor
I have been a parent governor at Spinfield school since September 2015. I am also the chair of the Teaching, Learning and Standards Committee. I am a mum of 3 children all in primary schools in Marlow (2 attend Spinfield School and 1 attends Holy Trinity School.) I moved to Marlow 4 years ago, after having spent 10 years abroad working and living in Bermuda and Canada.
I am very interested in the differences and similarities in the education systems for children around the world and am very keen on Spinfield’s desire to promote an international awareness in their pupils. I am currently a full-time parent, but before having my third child I worked in a large Paediatric Hospital in Toronto, Canada as a Neuroscience and Trauma Nurse and then a Transitional Care Coordinator.
Jo Barnes - Co-opted Governor
Steven Eltringham - Staff & Development Governor
Before Spinfield I had a wide and varied career, starting as an apprentice motor mechanic in my father’s business. I then completed 13 years’ service in the Army, culminating at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. I was deployed in several conflict zones and visited many countries around the world. After my service, I entered the retail leisure industry with Whitbread Inns and later Bass (now Mitchells and Butler’s) starting as a single site manager and on to be an area manager and ops manager.
I Joined Spinfield in December of 2014 as a part time TA, specifically working with pupil premium and S.E.N. children across the two key stages. I recently passed the Higher-Level Teaching Assistants (HLTA) with a distinction. This qualification allows me to cover teacher absence and take lessons when the need arises. I involve myself in all aspects of the curriculum and school life including extra-curricular activities too. I have attended three PGL residential courses, run the after-school cricket club and am currently running the debating club. I have assisted in organising several class trips, along with the class teachers, one to the Houses of Parliament and one to the Bovington Tank Museum. RM being the leading supplier of Software and Services to UK education gave me the opportunity to work with many schools and local authorities. I retired after 46 very happy and enjoyable years in 2017.
My wife Sue and I moved to Marlow in 1975 and we have lived here since bringing up our two boys Tim and Matt who are now both married to Laura and Maidlin respectively and who also live in Marlow.
